Friends or Fakers?
Do you really know who your friends are? I don’t mean to scare you, but there are honestly so many people in today’s society that may seem to be your “friend,” but are secretly scheming against you. Friends are supposed to support and respect one another, so why is this concept even an issue? Well, it is hard to admit, but people act in this manner of going behind each others backs quite often. There are countless times when one will go spreading rumors about another, only to create numerous conflicts. Friends can usually resolve their problems, but life would be so much easier if this never even occurred.
Troy High also serves as a surprisingly good example of this concept. Students appear to be friendly and cooperative with one another, however, do not be fooled by their outward appearance. If you take a look at their actual thoughts, you will see a ridiculously competitive mindset that wishes for the success of just that one individual. In fact, some students have gone to the extent of not helping their peers to the best of their ability simply because they want to be more successful than others.
Even take Milkman from Song of Solomon, who experiences a similar issue when he realizes that he has been “blinded” by the men in Danville. Although they appeared to admire Milkman, he notices that they may have internally felt “curious or amused” by him (276).
But why does this problem even have to exist? Surely I’m not the only one who believes that it hurts a lot less when people are truthful with you right from the start, rather than finding out that one you thought was a genuine person was actually faking how he or she felt about you. So I think it’s time to start making changes by simply being more honest with each other.
I completely agree Lomo. I feel like an infinite amount of lives conflicts would have been solved if people were just honest from the start, and a lot of time would be saved if people would additionally not fake their friendship. It was really interesting to see how many people faked their relationships and feelings regarding Milkman, just because he had flaws, and was different. Great job revealing the truth, and I love the title!
