Honesty Over Everything

We all know that one person who always seems to be telling lies, and we all often wonder “why can’t he or she just tell the truth for once?” Well, lying is like an avalanche; it starts small, continues to grow, and then eventually damages the lives of many. Everyone tells a little white lie here and there, but some begin to rely on these lies in order to protect the feelings of others. However, this reliance on concealing the truth becomes a habitual action that allows lies to be seen as a way to preserve happiness within relationships. But what happens when those surrounding begin to realize the constant lies that they have been told? Will they instantly forgive the individual who was simply trying to keep everything pleasant? Sincerity of Our Society

Sure honor codes are important in school and all, but it seems as if a similar idea has to be implemented within the entire society. Essentially every interaction between individuals in this era lacks a valid sense of trust. If I leave my friend’s house early because I’m tired, she assumes I have other plans that I’m ditching her for, despite the fact that I specifically told her I was going home in order to restore my sleep schedule. It’s a parallel situation when my mom tells me to clean my room, which I instantly do after she asks. Yet, she is still sure to verify every inch of my room before letting me leave the house, as if I lied about completing such a simple task. Even within relationships, when a girl isn’t able to hangout because she already has plans, her partner will often slam her with questions in order to ensure that she is being truthful.  Yes, it’s okay for individuals to casually verify that another isn’t lying, but the obsessive actions aforementioned are tr...
