Sincerity of Our Society
Sure honor codes are important in school and all, but it seems as if a similar idea has to be implemented within the entire society. Essentially every interaction between individuals in this era lacks a valid sense of trust. If I leave my friend’s house early because I’m tired, she assumes I have other plans that I’m ditching her for, despite the fact that I specifically told her I was going home in order to restore my sleep schedule. It’s a parallel situation when my mom tells me to clean my room, which I instantly do after she asks. Yet, she is still sure to verify every inch of my room before letting me leave the house, as if I lied about completing such a simple task. Even within relationships, when a girl isn’t able to hangout because she already has plans, her partner will often slam her with questions in order to ensure that she is being truthful.
Yes, it’s okay for individuals to casually verify that another isn’t lying, but the obsessive actions aforementioned are truly unnecessary. An honor code within our society could help resolve this issue, where individuals, whether being partners, friends, or family, would establish that the care and virtue within their relationship allows for them to faithfully trust each other. This simple confrontation can prevent the stress that some may feel from a lack of trust, and even bring two closer together by adding a virtuous nature to their relationship.
Of course people can ignore this system, just like how students often disregard the honor code of their own school, but cheating will significantly damage that individual because he or she will no longer be regarded as sincerely, thus harming his or her future relationships as well.
yessss Lauren-- there are so many situations where my parents have to double check to see if I was lying, and they never have found the answer they thought they were looking for. It seriously sucks that we cannot be trusted to do such simple tasks and that an honor code needs to be placed in the first place!!
ReplyDeleteWow Lauren this was such an interesting post! I never thought about how honor codes connected to my everyday life, even outside of school. You did a great job using personal experience to further explain what we discussed in class.
ReplyDeleteI think it's such an interesting point you bring up! I always find myself wondering like why someone did something, and how they lied about not doing (or doing) something, even when they might not have done anything at all! (does that make sense?) anyway, really interesting blog!
ReplyDeleteAlthough it's already been said, this post was truly a breath of fresh air. I really loved the points you make about the lack of trust in today's society, and the obsessive actions that you mentioned should be frowned upon, similar to cheating. I loved reading your ideas, great post!
